I lived in Maastricht in the US Air Force from 1966-1969 and had significant exposure to Nederlandse, Vlaams and Limburgs. More recently I have spent some time in South Africa and studied Afrikaans, which lead me back to West Vlaams once again. The Afrikaans page at my website contains an article on "creolization in Afrikaans" which another user had previously referenced in Trekboer.
